Navigate above or click here to see the A2Y Fan Post of the Day. In case you haven’t seen it yet, we take the best from Wings message boards and post an opinion per day up there. MLive’s Arithanos gets the honors today.

Poti?
How many puck-moving defensemen do the Wings need?
Lidstrom, Schneider, Woolley, Kronwall (when he returns), even Lebda does a fairly decent job (minus the occasional rookie mistake).
No, the Wings need a solid, (preferably big) stay-at-home defenseman.

I’m with you Joe. Ken Holland, meet Brendan Witt.

Let’s see…
The Wings have this Swedish thing going, right?
And Zetterberg plays better at his natural centerman position than on wing, right?
Which would make Lang expendable if we could get a solid d-man and a serviceable winger in return, right?
And Boston traded their top-line center and received a d-man and a winger in return, right?
Lang Gill, Axelsson.
Pick it apart, Chief….

Sorry, Lang *in exchange for* Gill, Axelsson.

I knew what you meant. Gill and Axelsson seem to fit what the Wings may be lacking…namely a little grit. But, man I tell you. As much as I ride the guy, it would be awfully tough to trade Lang because you just don’t know if he’s going to get hot at the right time. And, if he does, he can carry us. That might be important because Datsyuk and Zetterberg are still unknown playoff quantities. I’d bet though, that the thought has crossed Holland’s mind that if the right deal comes his way, Robert may be on his.

I ride him too. As I said in another comment section, I’ve just never warmed up to the guy.
And it’s probably not fair, but he seems to be a bit of a china doll in the toughness department, what with the hand and ribs last season and the groin this year.
I guess you always run the risk of a guy getting hot after you trade him, but I was looking at beyond this season, too. Axelsson and Gill, both thirty-years-old, seem to be pulling some decent numbers playing on a woeful team. And, as I suggested, maybe Axelsson would flourish playing on a line with some of his Swedish buds.
By dumping Thornton, O’Donnell should have the cap room to accomodate Lang’s salary, though perhaps he wouldn’t be interested in Lang. Too old, now that I think about it.
Have a good night, Chief.

*O’Connell, not O”Donnell.
And apparently he likes old guys if he’s interested in Molgilny.
Heh..
