GR Bound

Despite his claims that he plans to start the New Year’s game against Columbus, our loquacious backup is headed down (across) to Grand Rapids for a conditioning stint that could see him start Saturday night for the Griffins.

From Mlive:

“I don’t know if it’s good for me or bad for them, getting a goalie who’s been off for a month-and-a-half,” Legace said after practice Thursday at Joe Louis Arena. “It’s good to go down and get some work in, come back and hopefully get back to where I was.”

Wings coach Mike Babcock said there is minimal progress to report on the captain’s problematic groin.

“He told me he was sore today and couldn’t go,” Babcock said. “Any time you’re out it’s tough to come back, tough to get up to pace. He practiced with us full-out one day (Monday) and hasn’t been back since. I don’t know if (his injury) didn’t respond the right way.”

Iwo: Here’s hoping the Captain takes it slow, waits until after the Olympics and comes back fresh (as possible) in time to prepare for the playoffs.
